Public Art Stories

Closes 29 Feb 2024

Opened 2 Feb 2024

There is a strong history of public art across Cheltenham, with over 50 public art installations town-wide. These installations range from wooden sculptures to bronze statues, architectural caryatids to water fountains, mosaic panels to stained glass windows.

The Public Art Panel has supported the delivery of many public art installations in the town over a number of years. Recognising the limited information available to visitors and residents about Cheltenham’s public art assets, the Public Art Panel is now looking to strengthen awareness of public art and bring together historical facts and local stories in a celebration of our shared cultural resource.

Why your views matter

We are reaching out to Cheltenham's residents and community groups to gather personal stories and local legends to complement historical information on Cheltenham's public art installations.

Public art is any art in the public realm, e.g. in parks, streets, shopping centres or on the outside of buildings.

As a shared cultural resource, many of us have connections, memories or stories about public works of art that would enrich our shared experience.

If you, or a member of your family, have been involved in any way in the creation or commissioning of an artwork, or have memories or a story you would like to share about a piece of public artwork, we would like to hear from you.

By commenting on this consultation, you are agreeing that your comments can be made public as part of Cheltenham's public art trail and map that will be printed and published on the VisitCheltenham website.

We may use your comments within a press release or online (social media or website).  Your response will remain anonymous, unless you agree at a later date that you are happy for your name to be linked to your comment.

Any personal information you provide will be stored in line with our community engagement privacy statement.
