Draft Air Quality Action Plan

Closed 8 Dec 2022

Opened 27 Oct 2022

Overview

We want your views on the measures we are proposing in our revised and updated draft air quality action plan. The consultation will run for 6 weeks from 27th October 2022 until 8th December 2022. The document can be found at the bottom of the page.

Air monitoring results indicated that higher levels of pollution from nitrogen dioxide occurred in the area from the junction of Gloucester Road, Tewkesbury Road and High Street, through Poole Way and along Swindon Road to the junction of St George’s Street. We therefore declared this an air quality management area (AQMA).

A series of measures will be needed to improve the air quality within the AQMA, to meet national standards and improve health. These actions are also expected to have additional improvements across the wider borough

Why your views matter

Poor air quality disproportionally affects the most vulnerable in society such as children, the elderly or thoses living in povery or with existing health conditions. It causes many deaths and hospital admissions each year.

We are required to produce an annual status report giving details of the measures we are taking to improve air quality and our progress in realtion to our air quality action plan. This report is submitted to the Department for Environement, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). The latest report can be found below.

The final plan will consider all of your feedback as required under Schedule 11 of the Environmental Act 1995.

If you choose to share your personal details for future contact we will store and use this information in line with Cheltenham Borough Council's privacy policy

What happens next
