Cheltenham Physical Activity Survey

Closes 21 Mar 2024

Opened 31 Jan 2024

The council and a range of local organisations all share a vision that Cheltenham should be a place where everyone has the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from sport and physical activity.

But we know that not all our residents have the same opportunities to lead healthy and active lives.

Through this survey we want to understand how we keep people being active but also understand the barriers that might be preventing people from being active in the first place.

We will use the information to help us develop a physical activity and sports strategy for Cheltenham.

Why your views matter

Being active is great for our physical and mental health – not only can it help manage stress, ease any joint or back pain and boost our energy levels, but it can also improve sleep and lift our moods.

Being active doesn’t necessarily mean vigorous exercise as even gentle exercise can  improve physical health and can give a sense of achievement. Being active also takes into account eating a healthy and balanced diet. Examples of being active include:

  • Going for a walk
  • Swimming
  • Dancing
  • Going for a bike ride
  • Playing a sport
  • Doing the garden
  • Going to the gym

The survey, which should take around 5 mins to complete, will ask:

How active you feel currently and what you enjoy doing and where you enjoy doing it.

If you would like to be more active, what you would like to do more of.

And if you do not feel particularly active, what might be stopping you from being more active and what needs to change to help you and who might be best able to support you.
